The Singer's Lap. Her lap is a spiritual lap. It does not matter if she sings R&B, gospel, opera, blues, jazz country and western...you name it. The singer can subdue crowds. The singer can position herself in the midst of trouble, joy, sadness, weakness, strength, good times and bad times. The singer can be found on a stage, at a bedside, at the subway station, in a choir, at the club, in the shower and also all alone. She does not come to play because she knows her gift is for healing, she affirms and exalts humans into their divinity place to experience their strength and joy without shame or apology. She permits those who listen to feel, dance and sing. She holds space for pain never spoken of and ecstasy both experienced and yet to be experienced. In crowds of thousands or in a small group she can sing one song that everyone says was just for them, just what they needed to hear. People stand stand up, raised their hands, arms and voices in the midst of her delivery. It is easy to love her. She makes her hearers look around the room to see who told their private story...how did she know? She knows because her life too is the audience's life.
